Not all who say "Lord, Lord...": Matthew 7:21-23

For reassurance that miracles do not prove the faith of the doer and that we must therefore be saved by works not faith, see these articles:
They really helped me when I was wondering how I could stand any chance of actually being saved if I didn't even have enough faith for healings, and these people did but are still going to hell.

It also seems noteworthy to me that prior to this the only mention of miracles in Matthew is Jesus healing the multitudes. In all of the Sermon on the Mount the emphasis is on how we relate to God, people, and stuff, not on the miraculous. So, when Jesus concludes the sermon with an exhortation to put the teaching into action, the actions are ones that would have to do with loving others as ourselves and seeking the Kingdom of God before our own private kingdoms. There was nothing in the Lord, Lord soliloquy about loving and serving others. In the absence of that, I find it doubtful that the "many" who point to their miracles were seeking God's Kingdom. In short, they were impressed with their own performances and thought Jesus should be too.
