Lord, you are the miracle worker (Acts 3:12,16), but you tell us that signs and wonders will follow those who believe (Mark 16:17). You commanded your disciples to heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, and cast out demons (Matthew 10:8, Luke 9:1-2), and you commanded them to teach future disciples to also obey those commands (Matthew 28:19-20). Forgive us, Lord, for our failure to trust you in this—that failure that we see every time we lay hands on the sick and fail to see them healed (Matthew 17:19-20). Have mercy on us, and continue to pour out your gifts on your Church (1 Corinthians 12:7-11) until we all become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ (Ephesians 4:13). You tell us that whoever claims to live in Jesus must live as he did (1 John 2:6) and that everyone who is fully trained will be like their teacher (Luke 6:40). But, Lord, we are like that seed that fell among the weeds and are choked by life’s worries, riches, and pleasures, and did not mature (Luke 8:14). Forgive us, Lord, and enable us to abandon our riches and pleasures and to not be concerned about riches but to seek your kingdom above all things (Matthew 6:19-33).
